Explore the Land of Fire and Ice: Your Dream Road Trip in Iceland
Have you ever wanted to drive through a land that looks like it has come out straight from a fantasy movie? For that, all you have to do is book a ticket to Iceland. I was fortunate enough to visit this jaw dropping country and realize why it is called the “Land of Fire and Ice.”
Imagine this, you are driving around the Ring Road (that's Route 1 to the locals) which is a 1,322 km long route around the island. One minute you are passing steaming geysers and the next you are staring at colossal glaciers. It’s truly stunning stuff!
Now the question is, why should the Iceland be on your road trip list. Well let me tell you, the list is endless, but here are some of the reason:
- You will witness awe-inspiring waterfalls like Seljalandsfoss that will take your breath away.
- What about those black sand beaches at Reynisfjara? What a spectacle.
- You may look out for puffins as they waddle around because they are cuter in real life.
- Imagine seeing a geyser shooting water upwards. That is Iceland for you.

But before you jump on a car to hit the road, let's first talk about planning.
First thing's first, grab a good set of wheels. I would get a campervan, as it is like having your hotel on wheels! Not to mention, you can always stop by and make some tea when you feel like it.
Don’t forget to make a reservation for where you will stay. Whether you want to go camping or would prefer staying in some cozy lodges, the last thing you want is an uncomfortable place to sleep in after a long day of exploring.
Now, here’s a tip that some might find useful: it’s a good idea to read up on the local driving laws. Weather in Iceland can be a little … erm, let’s call it inconsistent. One minute it is sunny, and the next minute you are hit with a proper storm!
You'll find all you need to know to plan your road trip in Iceland in this article !
