When to go to Buenos aires

Optimal travel periods to experience Buenos Aires occur during March through May (autumn) and September through November (austral spring). Throughout these periods the city displays its allure through gentle climates alongside blossoming parks and a tranquil mood away from summer throngs. The period from December to February experiences extreme heat combined with humidity while tourist numbers swell during the festive season leading to a rise in accommodation costs. The quieter winter months from June to August present a viable budget travel option for those who can tolerate the evening chill. This time frame allows you to explore the city while adopting a relaxed local rhythm. To experience Buenos Aires' vibrant energy under favorable weather conditions while avoiding crowds and high costs, select either autumn or spring as your travel time.

Practical information about Buenos aires

Buenos Aires is a friendly, lively and very accessible city to travel to. Spanish is the national language, but in tourist areas, there is basic English spoken. The local currency is the Argentine peso (ARS) and cash is suggested, though cards are commonly accepted in restaurants and hotels. Exchange rates are extremely volatile, so use exchange offices or ATMs with caution. The transport system is well developed, including subways (subte), buses (colectivos) and trains. A re-loadable SUBE card is required to use these vehicles. There are many cabs at reasonable prices but it is safer to use apps like Cabify or Didi. Buenos Aires is a safe city overall, though you should be cautious in some places and watch out for not being pickpocketed, especially where there are lots of tourists. Finally, you should be aware that Argentinians have a staggered timetable: lunch at 2pm, dinner after 9pm, and the night life starts late. Make sure to bring proper clothes for the season - summers (December to February) are hot and humid, winters are mild but sometimes rainy.
