Activities

Around Perast, every excursion is an invitation to explore the enchanting seascapes, picturesque villages and well-kept secrets of the Bay of Kotor.

When to go to Perast

The ideal period to visit Perast is from May to September since the climate is warm and very sunny - perfect for cruises, swimming, and leisurely seaside terraces. During the summer, especially July and August, the town is crazily busy, which can produce a lively atmosphere but accommodation and activity prices can get higher too. For those who prefer quiet and want to keep a firm handle on costs, spring (May-June) and early autumn (September) are the best time to visit. The weather is still great, the water is warm enough to swim, and the back alleys and quiet nooks have abandoned their summer crowds. Winter is quiet and cost-effective, but the majority of restaurants and water sports facilities are closed and this imposes limits on options. At any time of year, Perast is always a delightfull, slow-paced place on Adriatic life.

Itinerary ideas

Rise in the morning for a stroll along the peaceful promenade of Perast, with baroque facades and pockets of little terraces purporting to be out of a postcard, welcome you to the shores of the Adriatic sea. Sit with a coffee and a view of the bay, taking delight in the sweetness of the morning light as boats lazily glide by. You can walk to the pier and hop aboard a small boat to the little island of Notre-Dame-du-Rocher. Visit the little church and museum. Take in the glorious scenery of mountains and the sparkling water in between.

Back on dry land we walked up the bell tower of the Saint-Nicolas church. At the 55 meter height, it gives a panoramic view of the red roofs and the bay; it is breathtaking and an unforgettable view.

For lunch locate a waterside restaurant and enjoy some fresh fish or seafood.

In the afternoon visit the Maritime Museum in Perast and learn about the most interesting histories of the local captains and navigators. You can end the day with a swim in one of the pretty surrounding coves, or just chill on a pier.

Practical information about Perast

Perast is a hidden treasure that is also very close to Kotor. You can easily reach Perast by car or bus in 20 minutes. If you arrive by car, be aware that the village is mostly pedestrianized and parking is limited. You should plan to leave your car at the entrance and walk on foot, which contributes to Perast's serenity. You may also want to bring comfortable shoes because the quaint stone paths and steep stairs can be taxing. While Perast is a tourist village, there are few cash machines available. Make sure to get cash in Kotor, before you arrive as this is also a small village. Credit cards are accepted in most hotels and restaurants, but it is useful to have cash for small shops and boat trips. When the evening falls, the village offers a nearly silent ambience - perfect for someone seeking authentic tranquility away from the nightlife crowd. And last but not least, bring a hat and sun cream. Perast offers a nice breeze from the sea, however, the Montenegrin sun can be aggressive, especially in the summer. In Perast, everything invites you to slow down and take your time in leisure and enjoy the beautiful Mediterranean environment in the rhythm of the Adriatic.
